All sites are closed on days that school is not in session.

$28.00 per week per child
Financial assistance is available by application or by applying for CCDF vouchers.

Monday - Friday
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Knapp, Edgewood, Joy, Lake Hills, Marsh, Coolspring, and Little Wolves
No fee for the afterschool programs.
Middle School & High School
Monday - Thursday
2:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Barker, Krueger, Michigan City High School
Free Service
Transportation home from Club Discovery and Club Explore at 5:00 p.m. is available for students in the bus area beginning after Labor Day.
Temporary assistance for morning care fees is available for families meeting eligibility requirements. Ask a site coordinator for an application.

Safe Harbor is proud to be a 21st Century Community Learning Center and to partner with Michigan City Area Schools, Lubeznik Center for the Arts, the Michigan City Public Library, and other community partners.
Safe Harbor is grateful to receive additional funding from Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation, and United Way of LaPorte County.
Fee collection is directly linked to the Safe Harbor overall budget. Therefore, fee collection is essential to the program’s sustainability.

What is Club Discovery?

Club Discovery is the Safe Harbor after-school enrichment program at Barker and Krueger Middle Schools.

Cub Discovery provides a safe fun environment for students to gather, hang out with friends and learn new things.
What do students do at Club Discovery?

Students participate in daily academic support and diverse enrichment programs, as well as fun activities. Services include:

Club Discovery is in session everyday that regular school is in session, Mondays - Thursdays.

Bus transportation home at 5:00 on MCAS busses is provided for students who live within the city limits.

Parents can also pick students up at Door D by the tennis courts by 5:00 PM.

There is no fee for Club Explore.

Robotics
Welcome to the webpage of Michigan City Robotics in
Michigan City, Indiana.
We are FIRST Robotics Team #3936, also known as ROBO BLITZ!
The ROBO BLITZ team is based out of Michigan City High School.
Team History
In 2012, as the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics program celebrated its 20th Anniversary Season, Michigan City unveiled its Rookie Robotics Team. With a dedicated and talented team of high school students, Michigan City Team 3936 earned the prestigious Midwest Region Rookie All-Star Award in Chicago and competed at the 2012 World Championships held in the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
As part of the Safe Harbor Afterschool Program and Hours for Ours mentoring program, which champion youth-based science and engineering activities in an Afterschool setting, our robotics program was one of three Afterschool programs nationwide to be showcased in the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation Annual Report.
Building on these accomplishments, we expanded our program to include the FIRST Tech Challenge for Middle School students and the FIRST Lego League, as well as the Junior FIRST Lego League for Elementary School students.
Utilizing the proven FIRST Robotics suite of programs we are proud to begin inspiring engineers and scientists at the earliest stages of learning and then continuing to guide them through their high school years and on to their future roles as leaders in our communities.
The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership. With the support of our community, family members and mentors, the MC Robotics Team strives to build up our community’s children, help develop leaders of the future and provide a safe place for learning and innovation.
2020 Highlight: 3D Printed PPE Face Shields
Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic, Safe Harbor's MC Robotics Team donated thier time to create thousands of face shields using the team's 3D printers, and donated them to surrounding hospitals and nursing homes. Thank you to the Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation for your support of this innitiative. Learn more about this project here.

Pine and Springfield Elementary Schools offer an afterschool program with Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County.
